IRFS, #PeaceNata commemorate 9/11
The September 11 attacks were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda on the United States on the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001. On its 14th anniversary, the Carolinian Circle of Young Diplomats (CCYD) co-organized a 9/11 commemoration with the #PeaceNata campaign on September 11, 2015 at the American Corner, USC Downtown Campus.
Entitled “Circumspection: 9/11 Commemoration”, the forum began at 9 am with an interfaith prayer led by CPSS Spiritual Committee Chairman Mar Louie Vincent Reyes and #PeaceNata advocate Jamil Faisal Adiong. A rationale on terrorism was then discussed by IRFS Head of Track and CCYD Adviser Atty. Archill Niña Capistrano, MInternatRel. This was followed by the 9/11 aftermath discussion of the guest speaker, Mr. Ali Aurangzeb. The 30-minute talk circled on the transition of terrorism since the September 11 attacks and the impact of the attacks to the rest of the Muslim community. The audience also got the chance to ask the speaker their questions through the open forum segment. After the presentation of token and certificates Rt. Hon. Dinah Joy Oro, CCYD’s Minister of Research and Academic Affairs, gave her closing remarks which marked the end of the program. As a tribute to its victims and to counter terrorism, students of IRFS 122 initiated a prayer walk with the rest of the attendees. Banners and posters on terrorism were also displayed at the American Corner.
