#PledgeforParity this International Women's Day!

"The story of women's struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights” - Gloria Steinem

Celebrated every 8th of March, International Women's Day (IWD) is a global commemoration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It was first organized in 1908 by the Socialist Party of America in remembrance of the 1908 strike of the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union. Since then, IWD has been deeply rooted on the growing rise of social turbulence, political activism and awareness of the struggles of women in the industrialized world.

This year, IWD aims to celebrate the achievements of women by urging leaders "to pledge to be a champion of gender parity within [their] organization and in the wider world". Our very own Carolinian Circle of Young Diplomats (CCYD) took part in IWD through the Pledge For Parity campaign. The Hegemon-Optimizers-Superpower-Titans (HOST) Teams of the International Relations and Foreign Service (IRFS) 134 class of Atty. Archill Niña Capistrano, MInternatRel, spearheaded this initiative by tapping various individuals to take part in accelerating gender parity in their organization/institution and in the world. Using the #PledgeforParity hashtag, student leaders, justice advocates, and University academes were able to spread online awareness about the social, economic, political, and cultural indifferences experienced by women around the globe. The teams also published the gathered pledges in their respective websites (click here to view Hegemon’s, Optimizers’, Superpower’s, and Titans’ article) and featured their chosen international organization (IO) as their way of expressing their gratitude for that organization’s commendable efforts in promoting gender parity.
